MRS. HESSE
This is my second year at Findley Elementary School and my 5th year teaching in the state of Iowa. I am so excited to continue my journey at Findley Elementary School. The staff, students and parents in the Findley Community are incredible to work with. I play a dual-role at Findley Elementary.
First and foremost, I am the Visual Arts Instructor four days of the week. During this time, all students participate in engaging learning activities that focus on the historical aspect of art as well as the techniques and mediums used in making visual art. Furthermore, all of the units focus, in some fashion, on collaborative thinking and problem solving within a group setting.
Secondly, I am one of two Arts Integration Specialists at Findley Elementary. In 2012, Findley Elementary was selected to participate in the Turnaround Arts Initiative (1 of 8 schools in the US). This opened the door to an entirely new culture and climate that enabled students and teachers to further integrate the Fine Arts throughout their curriculum during the year, not just within the Essentials classroom setting. The program was so successful, Findley continued this journey by allowing myself and the Music Instructor to work directly with teachers on continuing this success in their classroom. The program has expanded to our neighborhood North Side schools - Madison, Catell, Oak Park and Harding.
When I am not at school, I enjoy spending time with my husband, Matt, who teaches at Carlisle High School as the Woods Instructor. We have a small boxer named Roxxy and live in Pleasant Hill. We enjoy relaxing, hanging out with our dearest friends and family, and spending time traveling.
